VIRGINIA OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

A Non-Profit Encouraging Youth to Experience the Outdoors

A Few Words About Us

Virginia Outdoor Adventure (VOA) partners with youth groups in Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina to provide exciting and challenging outdoor experiences for the youth in their programs.  We provide these experiences a low to no cost to the youth.  Our goal is to provide opportunities for the youth in our community to experience something new in the outdoors.

Our History

Virginia Outdoor Adventure (VOA) is a non-profit organization focused on providing opportunities for the youth in our community to experience the outdoors. VOA’s beginning was the idea of Kelly and Linda Thorp through their experience working with youth through Scouts and other youth groups. In 2015, Linda and Kelly organized a weeklong sailing trip for a group of young people (14 – 17 years old) on the lower Chesapeake Bay. This was such a successful trip that they organized another sailing trip in 2017 on the Pamlico Sound in North Carolina.

Since the formation of VOA in 2017, we have provided low to no cost outdoor adventure trips including sailing in the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. Johns), multiple sailing trips to the Bahamas and canoe camping trips on the James River in central Virginia.

Our Mission

The overall objective of Virginia Outdoor Adventure is to improve the quality of life and character development for youth in our community by providing opportunities to experience challenging outdoor activities. We accomplish this by operating outdoor camps or activities for the purpose of enhancing emotional, mental and physical fitness of persons under the age of twenty-one (21) through camping, boating and other outdoor activities.
